East Bay Area, California |
|

When asked what they like most about living in the East Bay, residents repeatedly cite cultural diversity, art, beautiful parks, innovative businesses, and friendliness amongst neighbors. Other frequently mentioned characteristics include great restaurants and shopping, proximity to the University of California at Berkeley, the physical beauty of the environment, plus easy access to San Francisco, Oakland, Silicon Valley, and wine country... not to mention the great weather, plentiful community services, and abundance of recreational activities and sporting events!
You'll find travel and hotel recommendations in your pre-workshop package, which will be emailed
to you once we receive your completed registration. If you have any additional questions about
accommodations or the surrounding area, please don't hesitate to
contact us.
There are various lodging options available and we will email you a list of some of these with the registration confirmation.
Oakland International Airport (OAK) is much closer to Berkeley and Emeryville than San Francisco International Airport (SFO).
Several major airlines service Oakland and you should be able to secure a convenient flight. San Francisco International
Airport is farther away from the East Bay Area, but is still relatively close, however, keep in mind the times of day as
traveling from SFO to East Bay could be traffic-delayed during rush hour. The BART system runs from SFO to the East Bay
and is much more convenient than renting a car should you come from this direction.
There are shuttles and taxis you can hire to get you from the airport to the hotel. If you feel you need to rent a car,
you can rent one at the airport or at the Courtyard Marriott, Emeryville (they keep a small fleet of Hertz rentals on
property, please call in advance for availability). Public transportation is also available; however, we recommend taxis
and/or renting a car to get around locally. You can always decide as a group to split costs once you've congregated the
first day of the Training.

Bay Area weather is unpredictable, often cooler in the morning, warming up in the afternoon and cooling back down
in the evening. Please check the weather forecast before packing. Also, remember that you will be very HANDS-ON
during this training so expect to get "dirty." We will provide aprons and gloves but expect that your clothes will
take a bit of a beating.
