The 1-day Professional Mold-Making Workshop teaches the building professional how to build custom molds for sinks, fireplace surrounds and other architectural elements using a wide range of methods. Materials utilized in this class include Fiberglass, Foam, Rubber, Fiber Reinforced and Lightweight Sculpting Plaster. Techniques examined will include bench-run and rotary jig construction as well as foam and plaster sculpting.

 

Large-format sculpting and shaping methods are demonstrated along with irregular and organic shape construction. Many of the principles covered in this workshop can be applied to larger vessel construction such as bathtubs and complex planters. This intensive program is held at our 7,000 s.f. CHENG Fabrication Studio, Fu-Tung's working concrete shop.


 
  • Learn the art of CHENG craftsmanship.

Working with experienced instructors, participants will learn the tips, techniques and methods that have made Fu-Tung and his CHENG team the unparalleled leader in concrete countertop design, craftsmanship, and education.

  • Learn to build advanced sink molds from start to finish.

Working in a small group environment, you'll build a master mold using fast-setting plaster under the guidance of CHENG Instructors. All instructors possess extensive hands-on experience in the design and fabrication of advanced sink molds.

  • Learn how to produce high-quality rubber molds ideal for repeat production.

Working with pourable and brush-on rubber mold material, learn how to produce high-quality, reusable molds for casting your custom knock-outs and plugs. Make your own drainboards, edge treatments, soap dishes and surface patterns.

  • Learn how to turn large-scale molds on a turntable using light-weight sculpting plaster.

With an oversized turntable, fast-setting plaster and pearlite, learn to create molds for large planters, fire pits and vessels.

  • Learn the basics of  fiberglass mold-making.

Working with fiberglass materials, resins and components, learn to make durable, quality molds, plugs and knock-outs.
